Vanga Blue Forest.
Building on Mikoko Pamoja's success, the Vanga Blue Forest expands community-led mangrove conservation to Kenya's southern coastal villages, protecting critical marine nursery habitat.
Scaling the Blueprint
The Vanga Blue Forest project applies the successful Mikoko Pamoja model to a larger scale. Covering 460 hectares of mangrove forest across the Vanga, Jimbo, and Kiwegu villages, it represents one of East Africa's most significant community-led conservation efforts.
Marine Nursery Protection
The mangroves of Vanga Bay serve as critical nursery habitat for commercially important fish species, including prawns and crabs. By protecting these forests, the project secures the livelihoods of local fishing communities while simultaneously sequestering atmospheric carbon.
