Kwale Seagrass
Meadows.
A pioneering seagrass restoration initiative in Kwale County, Kenya, exploring the vast carbon sequestration potential of underwater meadows and their role in protecting marine biodiversity.
Early backers receive priority access to carbon streams.
The Hidden Carbon Sink
Seagrass meadows are among the most efficient carbon sinks on Earth, sequestering carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests on a per-hectare basis. Yet they remain one of the least understood and most threatened ecosystems.
Project Goals
This pilot project aims to restore degraded seagrass beds off the coast of Kwale County using innovative planting techniques developed by marine biologists. Success here will provide a replicable model for seagrass restoration across the Western Indian Ocean.
